Dear Tracy

04 May 2009

Know that I love you so much. Know that I would do anything for you in order to grow and become a very strong woman with a bright future.

I want you to understand this my daughter. Between you, Connie and Nanette, there’s no difference. I love you all the same way. You all have a special place in my heart in a unique way.

Each time I think of you Tracy, I smile and I know that you are my inspiration. Maybe one day you will want to know, why amongst my three children you were taken to a shelter where most kids are those whose parents are poor or are dead.

This is the reason my darling.

First and for most, I took you from your mother because; I don’t trust her. The reason I don’t trust your mother is because she killed her 2 unborn children who were supposed to be the 2nd and the 3rd born respectively. Thank God that when you were conceived, she wanted to prove a point that she still loved me.

But at some instances I tried to take you back to her, but her family wanted me to sign an affidavit that I will never take you again. I could not accept that. 3 times they refused to take you.

Another thing; your mother loved men too much. I feared that if she was in love with men, those men can turn against you as it’s always the case in Mozambique.

I came to South Africa from Mozambique with nothing, not even a place to stay. I took you to my mother, but my mother decided to take you to uncle Samuel’s place.

You were not treated well. Bangie the son of Samuel used to beat you up. They taught you how to speak vulgar and the place was full of unemployed men. It was not safe to have you there as a little girl.

One day, Uncle Sam’s wife left you with me without saying a word for 3 weeks. I could not do anything and I would go with you all over the place. Sometimes we would sleep without eating anything. I then stayed with you at church.

My love, I did this for you. While I was busy trying to look for a job, or to start a church project; I had to take you to the government place of safety. I only asked for 3-6 moths and I knew that things would be okay after that. I trusted in God.

The place is not an orphanage but it’s place of safety when parents are having problems; at least a child must be safe. I did it for you my darling. I was guaranteed that you will be taken care of, eat, sleep well, feel the warmth and go to pre-school. I only did it for your protection because I love you.

Your other sisters;
Connie was taken by her aunt Busie, but she could not accommodate you both because she was also unemployed.

Nanette was also staying with your step mom. She could not take you with her because she was in her parents home.

I promise you Tracy. After 3-6 months, I’ll take you back and I’ll make a big cake for you. God is opening his channels.

I love you.
Mama loves you.
Connie loves you.
Nanette loves you.
Gogo loves you.
Mfundisi loves you.
We all love you.

From Papa
